First Investment Preparation Checklist
Complete these steps before placing your first trade. A solid foundation prevents costly mistakes.

- Confirm you have an emergency fund covering 3–6 months of expenses in cash
- Assess high-interest debt (credit cards, personal loans) and decide whether to pay it down first
- Define your investment goal (retirement, home purchase, wealth building, etc.)
- Set your time horizon — how many years before you need this money
- Assess your risk tolerance — how much loss could you endure without panic-selling
- Open a brokerage or exchange account with a reputable, regulated platform
- Complete identity verification (KYC) required by your chosen platform
- Confirm your funding method (bank transfer, debit card) and test a small deposit
- Review at least one educational resource on the asset class you plan to invest in
- Plan a small first trade to learn the platform before committing larger amounts
